My provisional topic is What technology and level of engagement is necessary to attain telepresence

Objectives

Telepresence has moved out of the laboratories is now available in the form of sophisticated videoconference systems that combine high definition television with surround sound. The industry hasn’t come to a shared understanding of what telepresence is or a definition that everyone agrees on. In general, telepresence refers to a set of technologies that allow a person to feel as if they were present at a location other than their true location.

The question is about what enables telepresence - how much is technology and how much is human?

The objectives of this research are to:

1.    Define telepresence

2.    Establish how much technology is needed to create a telepresence experience.

3.    Investigate the nature of engagement necessary for telepresence to occur.

4.    Investigate the teaching and learning possibilities for telepresence.
